Graduated Cooperstown Graduate Programs, State University of New York at Oneonta, Program of the Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works, 1974, M.A.   plus Certificate of Advanced Study. Intern/Fellow in the Conservation Laboratory of the National Museum of American Art (then the National Collection of Fine Arts), Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.   under the supervision of Anton Konrad, Chief Conservator, 1973 - 1974.  

Attended numerous classes and refresher courses including the McCrone's "Microscopy for Conservators" and Richard Wolber's "New Cleaning Techniques". 

Graduated College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Maryland, College Park, 1971, B.A.   Major in Art History; minor in Studio Art.

August 1974 - Present. Private conservator of paintings and decorative objects.   Clients include numerous museums, historic houses, and private collectors in the region.    Trading since May 1982 as "Richmond Conservation Studio", 1322 West Broad Street, Richmond, Va.   23220.

August 1976 - May 1982.   Assistant Professor of Art History, School of the Arts, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia.   Responsible for the establishment and teaching of the undergraduate Pre-Conservation Curriculum and also responsible for the Conservation Laboratory, Anderson Gallery.

October 2009 - March 2010. Contract for conservation of the Portrait of Miss Bishop, later Mrs. Holland (ptd. ca. 1830) by an unidentified American artist, full-length portrait,  87" x 51", for the Tryon Palace Historic Sites and Gardens,  New Bern, N. C.

July 2009 - January 2010. Contract for conservation of The Portrait of King George III in Coronation Robes (ptd. ca. 1762), Studio of Allan Ramsay (Scotland and England, 1713-1784),  full length portrait,  98" x 65", for the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, Williamsburg, Va.

April 1999 - present. Contract conservator for the State Library of Virginia, Richmond, Virginia, providing conservation treatment for the Portrait of Queen Elizabeth I in the Governor’s Mansion; The mural Storming a Redoubt by Eugene Louis Lami in and numerous portraits for the Virginia Supreme Court. 

February 2000. Conservation of the Recumbent Statue of Robert E. Lee by Edward Valentine located at Washington & Lee, Lexington, Virginia. 

October 1991 - Present. Contract conservator for the Virginia Historical Society, Richmond, Virginia, providing conservation treatment and a survey of the paintings of paintings in the Portrait Collection. Various NEA and IMS grants. 

1984 - 1997. Contract Conservator for The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, Williamsburg, Virginia, providing conservation of paintings and painted objects for the Collections Department, The Wallace Gallery, The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum, Carter's Grove, etc. CWF contract. 

August 1993 - April 1995. Contract conservator for the Valentine Museum, Richmond, Virginia, providing conservation of the plaster sculptures and paintings. NEH grant. December 1992 - March 1993. Contract conservator for the Bayly Museum of Art, University of Virginia, providing conservation treatment of eight painting by 19th century Virginia artist, John Toole. Private foundation grant.

National Endowment for the Humanities reviewer - 1990 & 1991; Institute of Museum Services “Field Reviewer ” - 1989. 

February - June 1989. Contract conservator for The Maymont Foundation, Richmond, Virginia, providing an update of the 1981 conservation surveys of the paintings, works of art on paper, decorative objects, textiles, and carriages in the collection of the Dooley Mansion and Maymont Park.   IMS grant.

November 1987 - March 1988.   Contract conservator for the White House, Museum of the Confederacy, Richmond, Virginia, providing conservation treatment of marble and plaster statues, paintings, and various decorative objects for the reopening of the executive mansion.   Various grants and other funding.

February 1984 - February 1986.   Contract conservator for The Maymont Foundation, Richmond, Virginia, providing conservation treatment of paintings in the collection of the Dooley Mansion. NEA Grant.

May 1985 - August 1985.   Contract conservator with Co-Conservator, Carol Aiken, Objects Conservator, for the treatment of Japanese polychromed wooden sculptures at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, Virginia. IMS grant. 

November 1984 - May 1985. Contract conservator for The Museum of the Confederacy, Richmond, Virginia, providing conservation treatment of naval paintings and plaster busts. IMS grant.  

January 1982 - August 1985.   Contract conservator for the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond, Virginia, providing general consultation and conservation services as needed. Private funding.  

August 1983 - February 1985. Guest Conservator for the traveling exhibition "Painting in the South" originating at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.   Funded by Phillip Morris Inc., the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Fellows of the Virginia Museum.

July 1974 - March 1978.   Various contracts for conservation treatment of paintings, sculpture, decorative objects, archaeological objects, and musical instruments for the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.
